A beauty with pigtails-and-calico fashion? You’re probably referring to Judy Canova. Pigtails was no contemporary fashion but rather used in 1943. Starring Judy Canova herself, the show revolves around the story of a woman from a small town who tried her luck in Hollywood and how she now divides her time between home and Southern California. In the show, Judy Canova often tell interesting tales about Loverboy, her pig, and Cousin Uranus who had an unusual taste for chopped-liver ice cream.

The show will always be remembered by two things: first, through its pigtail fashion (which became a hit to college ladies), and its closing song Goodnight Soldier during the onset of WWII with its line: “wherever you may be... my heart's lonely... without you."

In these wonderful programs, Judy sang, yodeled, and provided tales about her her pig, Loverboy, and her relatives including Cousin Ureenus who loved chopped-liver-ice-cream. Mel Blanc was a regular performer on her shows too. The series was broadcast on CBS and NBC from 1943 to 1953.
