While there was great growth in the genre of detective mysteries, no other old time radio show made quite as big an impact as Candy Matson. This blonde bombshell enthralled all listeners in the West Coast from March of 1949 until the program ran its course in May of 1951 with her hair-raising adventures and penchant for getting into trouble. Although not quite as popular as some other serializations of its time, Candy Matson remains a revolutionary in the category of the female private eye anthology. Originally, the show was created, written, produced and directed by Monty Masters to showcase the talents of his lovely wife, Natalie Parks. Parks portrayed the saucy Candy with an artless grace that kept the audience at the edge of their seats, waiting for each smart and sassy comeback the private eye had to offer. Her ability to switch from humor to drama showed a quick and sharp wit that only enhanced the allure of the sexy siren that was Candy Matson. Aside from that, to add sizzle to an already hot program was the subtle and slow-boiling romance developing between Candy and her colleague, Lt. Ray Mallard of the San Francisco Police Department.
