Detective Sergeant Joe Friday has been off duty for 2 hours when he receives an emergency phone call from the Chief Detective. An entire block in the heart of the city has been threatened with complete destruction. Friday and his partner Ben Romero must report at once to the City Hall.

I'm listening to the "City Hall Bomber" episode of Dragnet. Since this incident actually happened, there must be information about it. Does anyone know where to find it?

I think one of the writers on the TV show said he would do a script, and THEN somebody on the staff would find an approximate match in the L.A. police files.

I just finished episode 7 of Dragnet, Attempted City Hall Bombing, that has got to be the best episode I have ever heard!!!

It is a great one. It was also used as one of the first television episodes. And the ending is classic!

That’s always been my favorite Dragnet episode. Writing and acting were superb! I agree. If not the best of the surviving Dragnet episodes, it was indeed a classic. Particularly the conclusion. I won't be a spoiler for those that haven't heard.it.

It's a good one. My favorite is where Joe and Ben (I think) are interrogating an uncooperative suspect (Stacey Harris, I think)--and Joe and Ben order sandwiches and play cards while talking and ignoring the silent suspect--until the suspect cracks from the strain. It's brilliant.

I'm very sceptical about the claim that all those Dragnet stories are true. Some of the same stories are on Calling All Cars and tail off in a different direction, have alternate outcomes and the sentences revealed at the end are totally different.

Liberties were always taken. The 1966 DRAGNET tv movie was based on serial killer Harvey Glatman. In the film, Friday manages to trace the killer's path by finding a vital clue, running it down, and ultimately trapping the murderer. In real life, Glatman was caught when one of his potential female victims grabbed his gun and beat the crap out of him. The cops hadn't even connected his three previous murders to the same perp.
