Howard Duff cracks ups Lurene Tuttle, even before the story begins. Mr Cavanaugh has never been quite accepted as stepfather by Fred or Eunice Blair. His youth counted against him as they misinterpreted his motives as one would when any man marries a wealth widow twice his age. His troubles began several months ago when his wife died from the scandal when her son Fred struck up an acquaintance with a hoodlum named Johnny Verona and had to testify against him for a murder. It was all in the papers and Mr Cavanaugh’s wife dropped dead when the butler brought in the Chronicle but the worst was yet to come. |
