+ True Detective Mysteries radio series was based on the True Detective magazine. Later it was sponsored by Listerine and Oh Henry Candy, but kept the same name. Each week the show presented the case history of an actual crime. Many were told from the criminals point of view. True Detective Mystery Magazine ran from 1929 to 1930 and was the original idea like Unsolved Mysteries. The show would present case histories of actual crimes and offered rewards to the listening audience for information or clues that would lead to an arrest. True Detective Mysteries presented the “case history of an actual crime, ” and the radio series was based on the magazine by the same name, which featured true cases. In the beginning, the magazine sponsored the series, later Listerine, Oh Henry Candy and multi sponsors picked up the bills. The series was broadcast by CBS and Mutual from 1929 to 1959.

TRUE DETECTIVE MYSTERIES

It lasted through June 1958- and was one of the last of Mutual's radio dramas to be scheduled. As Slip Mahoney used to say in The Bowery Boys: "Troot is stranger than friction." Sometimes the crimes are not so famous and the truth is fictionalized on True Detective. It ran a few different times through the years. There's even one from 1958 that's in circulation.

I like this show. It delivers all the great themes and mood of the era. I am really hooked on detective and crime OTR. I missed it the first time around, but I am making up for it now. I just wish it were possible to have it all in perfect audio quality.
