Listening to Unit 99 now….I think I might like it better than Nighwatch - seems a bit rougher….both great shows…

Long before COPS on FOX-TV, there was Unit 99, a radio series which was recorded live by the Sacramento, California Police Department. The series was broadcast by ABC. The host for the program is James B. Hicks, The Sacramento Police Chief. The officer who commands Unit 99, is Sergeant Bruce Guthrie. Director for the series is Tony Kester. The program features a radio squad car that has been equipped with a portable tape recorder. We follow along as Sergeant Guthrie answers police calls in Sacramento.

What is the closing music theme which immediately follows "Unit 99" on Armed Forces Radio? The saxophone, subtle string and bass orchestration is particularly effective.

I'd love to know the name of that Unit 99 closing music, too. I'm guessing it was probably composed especially for the show. I got as far as finding this: Unit 99 was a radio program broadcast by KFBK, a radio station that was part of the McClatchy media empire that also owned the Sacramento Bee newspaper and many other radio, television, and newspapers in California and the Western U.S. The radio program featured Sacramento police sergeant Dan Meredith who recorded his nightly police beat and interviewed witnesses and bystanders of various crimes and police calls. Calls ranged from petty larceny and theft to more serious crimes of assaults, kidnapping and murder.
