The New England town hall meeting was one of the earliest experiments in democracy on the North American continent, an opportunity for neighbors to come together to be informed and discuss issues which affected the community as a whole. From 1935 to 1956, America’s Town Meeting of the Air tried to bring this concept to a modern, nationwide forum. Produced by the League for Political Education and featuring executive director George V. Denny Jr, the program became incredibly popular, even inspiring listener clubs who would listen and explore the issues further after the actual broadcast. I suspect this series is one many listener's haven't heard before. I find it to be historically very interesting, especially the 1941 episodes. Although we weren't involved in it till December 7th, 1941, World War II was in full swing long before that time. So most of the topics are directly related to what or when we should have any involvement. The format of this series is to have two participants, one for and the other against a particular subject. In this episode, those are; Dr. Reinhold Niebuhr vs. John T. Flynn. Then, like any Town Meeting, it was opened up for questions by the audience. The Moderator was; George V. Denny, Jr. The series ran from May 30th, 1935 till June 17th, 1956, a total of 928 episodes.
