A drama based on the true story of Dr. Samuel Mudd, condemned for treating the wound of John Wilkes Booth. Dr Samuel A Mudd helped a man who called late at his house one night with a broken leg. He did not know that that man was John Wilkes Booth who was on the run after assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. Booth was later killed resisting arrest. Dr Mudd did not even know that the President had been assassinated yet he was arrested for conspiracy, tried and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was taken to a military prison on a remote island known as Shark Island and treated brutally by the guards. Then when an outbreak of yellow fever takes over the island Dr Mudd is called upon for his help. Despite his ill treatment he agrees to help telling the major that one night a long time ago he was a doctor and today he is still a doctor. |
