Air Date | : | 11.14.1938 |
Plot | : | + The Lux Radio Theatre. November 14, 1938. "The Buccaneer". Sponsored by: Lux (silverware premium). The story of Jean Lafitte, the buccaneer who came to the aid of Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. See cat. #40241 for a rehearsal recording of this broadcast. One of the performers loses his place in the script (or fails to pick up on a cue) about thirteen minutes into the program, causing an embarrassing silence. + In 1814, the citizens of New Orleans often saw a printed notice brazenly displayed in public places. It read "Sale of rare and notable goods, this day at the temple". It was signed, John Lafitte. The scene of this thieves bazaar was a clearing in the Cyprus Swamps. There, beneath tendrils of dripping moss, John Lafitte and his pirate crew insolently hawked their wares. |
