Plot | : | + The Lux Radio Theatre. September 4, 1944. "Maytime". Sponsored by: Lux. The first show of the season. The story is based on the 1937 musical about an opera singer in love, but not with her older husband. This is the second appearance of Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald on "The Lux Radio Theatre." + The elderly Miss Morrison recounts her youth when known as Marsha Morney she was loved in Paris for her wonderful opera singing. It was here in springtime that she met the true love of her life fellow American, student opera singer Paul Allison. But Marsha forsakes her love to honor her promise to Nicoli Nazaroff, her mentor who has given her the life she has now. Nicolai has never failed her and out of a feeling of duty she feels she cannot fail him by breaking off their engagement. She marries Nicolai and her career flourishes then after 5 years of marriage Nicolai decides it is time to leave Paris and head back for home in America. Nicolai arranges for her to star in the opera Tsaritsa and unknowingly engages her former love Paul Allison to play the lead baritone. Peppered with beautiful opera singing by Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. Music by Sigmund Romberg. |
