As the story begins in the busy editorial offices of 'The Day', Ed Hutchinson, the editor is barking instructions at his colleagues, until he is called to a meeting of the board members. The newspaper's creator, John Garrison, passed away eleven years ago, and left everything (including the paper) to his two daughters and his wife. But they've just decided to sell it, and Lawrence White, who owns their competing newspaper, The Standard, is the buyer...
