Orson Welles was an American actor, director, and writer, best known for his radio broadcast of the science fiction novel “War of the Worlds.” His performance of that novel was so brilliant and realistic that people mistakenly believed that the planet is really under attack by the aliens from Mars. He was also known for his role in the 1941 movie “Citizen Kane”, which is considered by many critics as the best movie ever created.
Orson Wells first worked on the radio before his Hollywood career took off. In fact, he is considered a creative genius, and has appeared on various radio shows during his truly amazing radio career. From 1936 to 1941, he worked as an actor, director, and writer of hundreds of radio dramas. Among his first radio appearances was in the popular series called “The Shadow,” where he took the lead role, albeit uncredited. His most famous work would probably be the Mercury Theater. After Mercury ended, Welles continued to appear on virtually all major radio shows of his time. He also continued his work on on other shows such as the “Columbia Theater Workshop” and Suspense. He was on the radio until the early 1950s. Click here to read more about Mercury Theater - Lady Esther Presents Orson Welles
