The spectroscope indicates the gas to be hydrogen which is moving towards the earth at enormous velocity". What is this unexplained phenomena? If a mainstream broadcast network played an identical 'prank' today, playing supposed "Live Coverage" of an even like that, I'm reasonably sure the same sort of panic would ensue. There would be some who would totally FREAK OUT. Sure, we have FB and Twitter so hopefully word of it being fiction would spread also, but I really think a similar television production now would still cause the same panic.

I am not so sure there would be much panic, Amber, since people nowadays would flip to another channel and see or hear no coverage of the event. Sure, a few might panic, but I doubt it would be like it was so long ago.

I read that the "panic" was somewhat exaggerated anyway...it wasn't as widespresd as history would have us believe.

he funny thing is - it was not carried on the primary CBS Radio affiliate in BOSTON! I'm not even sure if a secondary affiliate even carried it. Which means it was only heard "regionally" in the area -so much for Panic in Boston!
