I have recently listened to a few episodes of an OTR show called "Romance" (I've also seen it titled Theater of Romance). Maybe half of the episodes are audio drama versions of books, plays, or movies. But, many of the "original" stories are unique. A lot of surprise endings that you never saw coming (and, often, not in a good way).

This series was broadcast by CBS from April 19, 1943 to January 5, 1957. The program was a schedule-filler, and it was seldom heard for more than a few weeks or months at a time. The complicated broadcast log by Ray Stanich reveals at least 20 changes of time or day, with long breaks in continuity.

ROMANCE

I've heard many episodes of Romance. It's excellent and deserves more attention than it gets. I imagine that people see the title and assume it's weepy soap operas, but it's much better than that. For example, I heard one that was an adventure story about a woman who inherited a sailing vessel from her late father and how she successfully captained it despite resistance from the crew.
