Air Date | : | 12.09.1938 |
Plot | : | + "Rebecca". Sponsored by: Campbell's Soup. The first show of the series (which is actually a continuation of "The Mercury Theatre On The Air," but with a sponsor). The show is introduced by Edwin C. Hill, who praises the program so much it sounds like a eulogy. A new bride at a wealthy estate hears constantly about the previous mistress of the house...Rebecca. A thoroughly enjoyable adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s novel, Rebecca, by and starring Orson Welles. Introduced by newsman Edwin C. Hill and broadcast only a month after the famous broadcast of War of the World. If you have not read the book or seen the film then this really is a must. It is radio drama at its very bestWhen a young lady in her paid employment of companion to a rich old lady meets and marries wealthy Maxim De Winters in Monte Carlo they move into his family mansion, Mandalay. However his housekeeper Mrs Danvers is constantly comparing her to the first Mrs De Winters, Rebecca who had died the previous year. Mrs Danvers makes the new Mrs De Winter’s life a misery but Mr De Winter’s is hiding a dark secret about his first wife Rebecca. |
