Spoiler : I love Clifford! His character is more realistic, to me, than any of the others--although who can resist Paul? I find the women's roles somewhat limited--although they were adventurous for their time. The men on this soap were so much "in charge" and had so much more adventure, while the women's roles basically revolved around their menfolk to a point that I have to grit my teeth in frustration sometimes. I realize, however, that this reflected, in a general way, the lives of many women during the 1930s-1950s.
