He was one of the first radio news commentators, beginning with his WJZ-Newark in 1922, and he became known as the dean of radio commentators. From 1928 to 1939 he was a CBS commentator, then NBC until 1955 when he retired. The CD features various newscasts from 1939 to 1945, and 2 tribute programs from 1955 when he retired.
