Kyser was born James King Kern Kyser in in Rocky mount, North Carolina 6/18/1897. He died 7/23/1985 of a heart attack in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He was married to singer Georgia Carroll from 1944 until 1985 when he died. He formed his first band while attending the University of North Carolina in 1926. Kyser and his band played at Chicago's famous Blackhawk Restaurant from 1935- 1941. On radio we knew Kyser as, the perfessor (evenin' folks, how y'all?) with his theme song, "Thinking of You" on the Kollege Of Musical Knowledge for WGN-Chicago, the Mutual, NBC and ABC Radio Networks (1937-1949); NBC-TV (1949-1950, again 1954).
