Quiz Kids, the kids’ version of Information Please, was a popular juvenile radio-TV quiz show that went on-air during the 1940s and 1950s. Conceptualized by Chicago public relation officer Louis G. Cowan, NBC aired this show on June 28, 1940 as a replacement for Alec Templeton Time. Bald Joe Kelly became the show’s quiz master, while Eliza Hickok and Rachel Stevenson were the researchers, gathering questions that will be asked by the quizmaster to the contestants. The contestants consisted of five wonderful kids who were qualified on the basis of their academic interests, intelligence, and personality. Every week, only the top three scorers would remain in the show and the other two will be replaced. Should a remaining contestant turn 16, he or she will not be allowed to participate anymore. Winning contestants were awarded with $100 savings.
When the show was aired again from January 12, 1956 to September 27, 1956, Clifton Fadiman served as the quizmaster. Quiz Kids was heard on the radio for 13 years. It also had its television adaptation (under NBC and CBS) which was seen from July 6, 1949 to July 5, 1953. Click here to read more about Quiz Kids, The
