Most of the stories for X Minus One were culled directly from the pages of Galaxy. Many of SF's most popular authors got mass exposure through this series, and even today X Minus One is still generally considered a cornerstone of radio drama.

Most, if not all, of the famous sci-fi authors have had stories featured in this series: Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Theodore Sturgeon, just to name a few.

Love this program, there were some great episodes. And, yes, some stinkers. But overall well done.

Featuring the complete series in excellent sound, and it also includes the 1973 experimental show called Iron Chancellor, which we think was a pilot for a possible new series. X MINUS ONE was the second time NBC delved into Science Fiction, the first being Dimension X (see in our catalog). This series is just as excellent as the first, using top writer, and radio stars of the period. The program was broadcast by NBC from 1955 to 1958, and was sponsored by Street and Smith SCI- FI magazine, and at times Bromo Quinine and Pabst beer. If you like SCI-FI, you will like this series as much as we do.

X MINUS ONE - (aka X-1)

I listened to the show and when they counted down and the blastoff, because I couldn't replicate the force of acceleration, I held my breath. I was able to eventually hold my breath until the rockets stopped. And then one day I wound up in Antigua, where the Down Range Tracking station was, living along the beach, and I was a wonderful free diver, able to hold my breath for several minutes. Good practice from listening to X-1. Now I live near the Space Center in Fla, and can watch them take off. Too many coincidences...and there are more.
