The bursar of the spaceship Starclimber has been called to the skipper’s cabin. He has been traveling aboard the Starclimber for twelve years and has never been asked to the “iron man’s” cabin before, but then strange things were happening on this trip. Based on a story by Theodore Sturgeon.

Yeah. Radio programs of the time were more about attacking communism. Hardly a satire of McCarthyism. Ironically, it sounds a lot like what's going on today.

Don't know why this story is considered a satire of McCarthy. Seems more like a comment on communism to me. Denial of individual agency, forcing the rural dwellers into urban ghettos, villification of personal liberty, this is all right out of the history of communist takeovers from Russia to China. The government enforcers even start quoting propagandish aphorisms right out of Mao's Little Red Book.
