The program was rebroadcast on "Monitor" during January, 1974.. The world is going to end in exactly two weeks and seven hours. There is a new star in the galaxy, which will cause the sun to explode. It's the president's decision whether to release this information to the public, whilst the scientists battle to stop this catastrophe.

This is an adaptation of James Blish's orginal 1942 short story "Sunken Universe", which he also adapted so it could be incorporated into his collection "The Seedling Stars". What is brilliant about this one is that the X minus one treatment - the storyline encapsulating the core tale of heroic, microscopic humanoids breaking through their ultimate barrier, the surface tension of a drop of water - is itself mind-blowing, the most imaginative escape from disaster I have ever heard. Another good reason never to miss an episode of X minus one!

What I can’t understand is how this science experiment would stop the humans apocolyptic event? It seems like they should be trying to save the world instead of playing with seamonkies
