Title | : | ny yankees vs detroit tigers ep01of04 |
Air Date | : | 09.20.1934 |
Plot | : | + WWJ, Detroit. Sponsored by: White Star Refining (Mobilgas distributor). The Detroit Tigers vs. The New York Yankees. The Tigers are within four games of winning the Pennant. Starting pitchers are Fred Marberry (Tigers) and Johnny Broka (Yankees). Babe Ruth is out with a sore leg, but this is an exciting game with multiple bases loaded, an extended run-down, many base hits and one player ejected for "kicking." The first three Yankee batters hit safely, and then Lou Gehrig pops up. Hank Greenberg did not play yesterday because of Yom Kippur. The game is much faster paced than more modern games; less than a minute typically elapses between innings. There are no commercials broadcast during the game, only brief mentions before and after. With two outs in the ninth inning, a woman is beaned by a foul ball, the Tiger's manager (Mickey Cochran) then pitch hits! The announcer does the entire broadcast himself, even pausing in his commentary to make public address system announcements! It’s the baseball season of 1934 and WWJ Detroit News sponsored by White Star and Noble Gas bring you Detroit Tiger games broadcast in four parts. |
