The program was rebroadcast on April 16, 1977. + For some fifty years among the plains states in the middle of the 19th century cattle was king then bleating and buying their way from the middle states came the sheep. What a horse has grazed a steer can still feed on. What a sheep has nibbled to the bare earth no animal can survive on. So, a war was declared by the cattle barons but they were too wealthy and entrenched to do their own fighting. It was easier to hire guns for that and the most dreaded gun in the west was a man named Cain Tuck...When the pyramids were a thousand years old or somewhere about 2000 BC a tribe of wanderers dissatisfied for their own reasons at the restriction and poverty of their lives chose to migrate northwards in search of a new and better life. The parallel between their migration and our own American drive westward is evidenced in the beginning and ending of this classic story a modern version of the story of Cain and Abel. |
