Louisa Alcott-Mandeville is a young doctor, and the oath is still fresh and inspiring. A framed copy of it hangs in her office where she looks at it from time to time, every day...It was the ancient Greeks who believed that a man’s life was a thread and it passed through the hands of three goddesses who were called the fate. The thread spun by one, the design by the second and then there was Atropos who waited with the terrible shear and when she snipped the thread for a good reason or a bad reason or for no reason at all that was the end forever.
