Many may remember E.G. Marshall (later Tammy Grimes) introducing this relatively modern CBS radio show . The brainchild of Himan Brown (who guided Inner Sanctum), CBS in allowed Mr. Brown to relive the days of thrilling radio for an hour a full seven nights a week! The late E.G. Marshall hosted the program every year but the final one, when actress Tammy Grimes took over.

The mixed cast of television and radio stars offer a range of stories from the pens of the great writers, as well as offering new tales of mystery and imagination. Rarely performed tales by Mark Twain and O. Henry and classic radio tales by Edgar Allen Poe were featured.

Listened to CBS radio mystery theatre for the first time last night on youtube. Quite enjoyable. I imagine the show I listened to, The Time Box, must have been a departure from the norm given the horror ambiance of the presentation. I was expecting everyone to die in the end, but instead it turned out a romance.

Spent 8 years listening to CBSRMT when it was originally on in the 70s. My favorite episode is from the second month February 1974...A Choice of Witnesses. Other favorites include the Sherlock Holmes and Edgar Allan Poe week long series that they did

I love CBS Radio Mystery Theater. There's some ghoulish ones and romantic ones, supernaturally-tainted ones. I like the one where the guy starts off being killed in battle then wakes up in his bedroom as a kid with his father waking him up for school. No giveaways - that's just how it begins. Keep exploring the episodes ( so many!) - you'll find something entertaining without a doubt!

CBS Radio mystery is how I got started with OTR. I first heard it about 40 years ago when I was a teenager back in the 70s. Then when I was an adult living in my own apartment with no TV in the mid 80s, I was able to find what I thought was the same as what I had heard in the 70s. What I ended up listening to was OTR being put on ever night at 9 pm and 2 am on KNX radio in Los Angeles. For probably 10 years or more, I had been trying to find the original episode (I didn't knot it was CBS radio) I had first heard back in the 70s. I thought it was Suspense or Lights Out. Somehow I found out that it was CBS Radio from the 70s and not OTR from the 40s. I was finally able to find the original episode called Age Cannot Wither Her. This got me started wtih OTR and Mildred Pierce got me started with film noir. I love old movies, old radio and old TV shows.

Many OTR (Old Time Radio) collectors call this NTR (New Time Radio) program the Son of Inner Sanctum. It was an ambitious attempt to bring back drama to modern radio listeners. It was broadcast on CBS from January 6, 1974 and ran seven days a week until December 31, 1982. We had this listed before, and because so many folk asked, here it is again.

CBS RADIO MYSTERY THEATER

The theme music (or at least the one I remember) was composed by Nathan Van Cleave for The Twilight Zone episode "Two," which starred Elizabeth Montgomery and Charles Bronson. The Twilight Zone was owned and broadcast by CBS.
