A two-timing wife learns that her meek, bank-teller husband is planning to kill her. + Margie is in Charlie’s bar where she is waiting to meet her lover who is late. She tells her husband that she has met up with an old girl friend. Meanwhile while she is waiting a private detective in the bar buys her a drink and tells her about this client of his, a quiet man, who is planning to murder his wife who happens to be called Margie. He tells her the quiet man is the kind you got to watch because you never know what they’re thinking or what they’re going to do. Margie suddenly fears that the man he is talking about is her husband.

I can't speak too highly of this episode. Despite her flaws, Margie never loses listener sympathy. She is played perfectly by Ann Southern. There is suspense and tension throughout the show and the twist at the end is a genuine surprise. I have to admit that part of the reason I love this episode is that the ending could be seen as flamboyantly politically incorrect in this era but I adore that ending. Margie is a great gal even if duplicitous and her decision at the end should be applauded by everyone. "Beware the Quiet Man" may be the very best episode of an outstanding radio show.
