Spoiler : Furnished Floor is essentially a horror entry for the Suspense radio series, and for such a dark, unsettling tale it begins and continues to unfold in an exceptionally low key, genteel fashion for some time, with only a few faint musical cues to inform the listener that there's an unsettling subtext, as by the half-way point one can feel the incipient hysteria in Miss Hawkins' voice, which is rather that of a spinster church lady from a now bygone era, well more than seventy years ago, for which a 21st century listener would be wise to cut it some slack, as it were, as this is a near leisurely paced tale, one with no shock effects to speak of, and yet an emotionally devastating ending, albeit no resolution to tie the loose ends of the story,--truly, more anecdote than story--together. The closure is a horrifying ellipsis, accompanying, indeed complementing a song. Furnished Floor is not a tale for the faint of heart.
