As they drive along, it turns out that he's planning to kill her husband...and she knows all about it! Ava Gardner announces that the show has won a Peabody Award for (among others) "Dead Ernest." A woman in distress called at Richard Diamond’s office all the way from Brooklyn with $300 and asked him to work for her. She said she was in desperate trouble and that he was just using her. She said he was always so nice until she met him this morning for coffee and told him what she’d found out. Then she began shivering and fell in to Richard Diamond’s arms unconscious and within five minutes she was dead. Richard Diamond discovered from the purse she had dropped in his bin that she was Doris Romano but it was the revolver in her purse which had three bullets recently fired that intrigued him most. Diamond had been paid and he was going to get to the bottom of her troubles. + It is Sunday and Mrs. Harris is driving along in the pouring rain when she stops to give a man a lift. She doesn’t usually pick people up and maybe she shouldn’t have today as the man whose name is Sullivan has just got out of prison and she thinks he has escaped. |
