The program was re-used as program #101 on April 2, 1948. Mrs Aldrich is concerned that Henry is getting ideas again about her birthday present and is checking that Sam, Mr Aldrich, has given him a clear idea of what she wants, Hemmingway’s new book. She hopes it has sunk in as she doesn’t want a repeat of last years present… Blanche is lying awake listening to John’s incessant snoring and of course has to wake him up to get him to stop. Then the bickering really begins! All her life Anne had had to put up with second best ever since she was a little girl. And now after years of wanting and not getting she sees one thing that she truly desires and she just has to have, not a replacement or a substitute but the thing itself there catching her eye, tugging at her brain and telling her, “if you don’t own me you’ll never have anything you really want, never, never, never, I’m your last chance…” Maisie and Eddie have been engaged for quite a while now, but they didn't get hitched yet because Eddie wasn't earning enough money. But now all of that has changed. He has a great job in a bank, in the (as Maisie puts it) "interest-adding-up" department, so it's only a matter of time until they say "I do!". In the meantime, next week it's Maisie's birthday, so she's going to head over to the bank to drop some hints to Eddie about what gift she'd like... |
