Our European cousins have been known to belittle the United States as a cultural backwater, that Yankee Industry leaves little appreciation for the finer things in life like classical music. It may be true that America is not as fertile ground for classical music appreciation, but a lot of that is because our melting pot society has been too busy developing our own traditions. Another difficulty is simply lack of exposure to the great works of the Masters. One who sought to correct this deficiency was André Kostelanetz. Kostelanetz specialized in “light classical” music which was accessible to the everyday listener. CBS (“The Tiffany Network”) gave the maestro his own weekly show to spread this less than high-brow form of cultural enlightenment. Click here to read more about Andre Kostalanetz Show
