Spoiler : My father, Barry Wood, was the Happy Gang announcer from 1952 to 1959 when the show went off the air. He "warmed up" the live theatre audience before the start time, determining who was from out of province and coaching them on when to applaud. He read the commercials live on the air, having written many of them himself, and our family always used the products he promoted. Many of these items are still in the supermarkets today: Robin Hood Flour, Christie's Bread. Personally I am a retired high school teacher, married with two grown children and six grandchildren, appreciating the opportunity to hear my father's voice once again, 43 years after his passing.
