The script was used again on the program of October 20, 1957, and on the Gunsmoke television series on January 7, 1956. Matt Dillon had been away for a week and upon his return he went to get a drink from Kitty. He noticed she was drinking something different a tonic prepared by Professor Lute Bone. Professor Bone arrived in town while Matt was away and it seemed that everybody was taking his “Wonder Medicine” but Matt was suspicious of its ingredients as was the Doc who was also concerned as to what it was actually doing to the people. Doc was concerned about a tonic that Professor Lute Bone was selling in town and wanted Matt to stop him. Bone professed that his tonic was a “cure all” but Doc had tested it and discovered it had opium in it. He was afraid folks would get addicted to it and then if they really had something wrong they wouldn’t know about it or get the right medicine. |
