The army is nearby, but cannot act against the bandits without orders from Washington. The gang makes the mistake of shooting the Pony Express rider! Tonto's horse is called "White Feller," not "Scout." As the masked man rode by on Silver we heard him say that the outlaw in the hills were threatening to ride again. The hills bordering the town of Greenville made a perfect hiding place for the outlaws that operated in that territory. Cavalry troops were garrisoned nearby but their presence failed to frighten the bandits. |
