A wartime trip around the country to find anti-Semitism and isolationism in Boston, poor white trash in the South, delinquency and the "racial question." Good radio, and outspoken for an NBC show in 1944. An indictment of the many problems in wartime America. The author, Selden Menafee, appears on the program after the dramatization. The program was repeated April 4, 1944 (see cat. #68308). Assignment USA is an account of a reporters travels throughout the United States during world war two. Seldon Menafee is a reporter he’s making a 15000-mile pilgrimage to America trying to picture honestly and dispassionately what is happening in this native land of his. He is soon aware that all of America is at war if not up to it’s neck then well above it’s knees, and that’s true from every region, from Maine to San Diego from Seattle to Florida. |
